On Friday, April 17th, we produced and recorded the 5th edition of American Ideal. It was terrific! This year, we discovered a wonderful venue, the 1st United Methodist Church of South Miami. We are grateful for their hospitality.

Classical music is important, not just because it's historical, but because it is so different.

Since 1975, I have worked to showcase young, and not so young, talent.

More than 600 elementary and middle school students from Miami-Dade County were introduced to classical music, most, for the very first time. We hope, it won't be the last.

We want to thank Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, as well as the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, who provided the funds necessary for this production. Without funding for smaller arts organizations,  such as Coral Gables Opera, many residents of Miami-Dade County are not able to enjoy opera, ballet, dance and other forms of unique human expression.

If you would like to see some pictures from the show, and listen to the performance, you can so show by clicking on American Ideal V. The audio is adequate, but not as good as the recording done for broadcast on WLRN-TV, which will air on June 19th at 7 PM.

Click here for individual performances from American Ideal V edited from the broadcast DVD and other related clips.

If you would like to advertise on this website, contact Ken English and he will get back to you.

Keep reaching for the high notes...
